Hindalco Industries Limited, led by Managing Director Satish Pai, has launched a ₹500 crore EV component manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune—marking a pivotal step in India’s shift toward localised, lightweight aluminium solutions for electric vehicles. The 5-acre plant is dedicated to producing crash-resistant battery enclosures that reduce vehicle weight by up to 40%, improving driving range, thermal management, and safety. This move highlights Hindalco’s strategic commitment to innovation, sustainability, and import substitution in alignment with the ‘Make in India’ vision.
As part of its rollout, Hindalco has delivered 10,000 aluminium battery enclosures to Mahindra and Mahindra Limited [Automotive and Farm Equipment Business], co-developed through a partnership with Rajesh Jejurikar-led M&M’s automotive division. The facility not only boosts the domestic EV supply chain but is also expected to create up to 1,000 jobs—further strengthening India’s clean mobility ambitions. With low-carbon aluminium at the core, Hindalco is redefining the future of EVs through smart materials and advanced engineering.
